Qualified Teachers

Sadly to say, there are people out there who just want to make money and/or have their egos boosted (Shock, gasp, big surprise huh?). That is one problem that in finding a suitable martial arts teachers. Do not be fooled, there are alot of quacks out there. Before you turn any of your hard earned money over to a martial arts instructor, do not be afraid to ask him some questions.

  1. What is you rank?
If we takes offense at this do not even consider him/her. This is an honest question on should be given an answer. As I rule, do not take instruction from someone with only a first degree black belt, because he is still working on his techniques.
  2. Who teaches the classes?
Does the instructor teach the class, or does he get one of his students, that really needs a temporary job and doesn't have any idea in hell what he is doing or doesn't care about your progress.
  3. May I set in and watch a class?
See a sample class. Check in see how he teaches, if he cares about his student, if he conducts the class with control, if anyone gets hurt through not fault of there own and how the instructor response to it.
  4. Are you a member of any nationally recoqnized organizations?
This questions is more to see his response, because some organization pop up overnight and die two days hence. I can get a permit and call my group the IDKSBIWYDM (I Don't know shit but I want your damn money) if I so chose.
  5. Do students pay for promotion testing?
Sometimes if instructors make students pay for belt testing, than the whole thing becomes more, give the black belt to the man with the big wallet even though that five year old can beet him, rather than you have earned it and have the confidence and ability defend yourself should you life ever be in dager.

Reguardless of what you chose make sure that you chose the correct martial arts and the correct instructor for you. You might not be able to take the ohysical aspects of Tiger Kung-fu, but you might love Tai Chi or vice versa. You might not like the way Bob teaches, but his teen brother Bill will be more to your style. Just remember, though, you get out what you put in, and even with the greatest teacher and the world can not do anything if he/she doesn't have anything to work with.
